The history behind the new name
Today’s accounting principles originated in Venice around 1400 AC, which, at the time, was one of the worlds´ leading trading cities. Merchants found the need for a better management tool for monitoring their businesses and the mirroring of their individual organizations to each other. The Venetian Luca Pacioli (1445 – 1517) is considered the father of accounting and was the first person to record and execute training in so-called “double entry accounting”. A few hundred years later, a professional book titled “The Merchants Mirrour” (Richard Dafforne, 1635), was released in the UK and it correctly described the system of double entry accounting based on the method of Luca Pacioli, with debit and credit in balance.
